Description
Tanolo Tech Integration Inc. is seeking a Senior Building Code & Accessibility Specialist with strong expertise in building code and accessibility compliance, working knowledge of the architectural and interior design process, and demonstrated project and client management experience.
The successful candidate will serve as a technical lead on projects, providing regulatory expertise, conducting compliance reviews, and guiding clients from preliminary test fit through construction and closeout.
This role is ideal for a professional with 5–10 years of relevant experience who is ready to take ownership of projects, mentor junior team members, and further develop advanced technical expertise.
The Senior Building Code and Accessibility Specialist is expected to exercise independent professional judgment and represent the firm confidently in discussions with clients and Authorities Having Jurisdiction.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Regulatory Compliance
-Review architectural and interior design drawings for compliance with Building
Code and Fire Code;
-Prepare comprehensive Building Code Reports;
-Develop and coordinate Alternative Solutions with supporting documentation;
-Interpret applicable codes and standards;
-Coordinate with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), plan examiners, and fire officials;
-Conduct building code focused site reviews to assess compliance with applicable codes.
Accessibility Compliance
-Review architectural and interior design drawings for compliance with accessibility
standards;
-Prepare comprehensive accessibility reports;
-Interpret and compare applicable accessibility standards;
-Conduct accessibility-focused site reviews to assess compliance with applicable
standards;
Rick Hansen Accessibility Foundation Accessibility Certification (RHFAC) tasks including,
but not limited to:
-Populate and maintain rating survey for the duration of the project;
-Review progress drawings and provide feedback with the lens of RHFAC;
-Site reviews and project meetings;
-Coordination with RHFAC Adjudicator.
Project Management
-Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients;
-Address client concerns in a professional and timely manner;
-Oversee project schedules to ensure regulatory deliverables are met.
Technical Leadership
-Maintain up-to-date knowledge of building code amendments and regulatory changes;
-Provide technical direction on complex compliance issues;
-Mentor and provide oversight of junior team members;
-Lead internal peer reviews;
-Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing and best practices development;
-Participate in, and assist with planning, educational sessions for various user groups.
BCIN Stamping (only required if candidate holds valid BCIN Certification)
-Conduct BCIN reviews of the project from preliminary test fit through the end of construction documents;
-Participate in project meetings as required to identify and resolve compliance issues early in design phases;
-Assist client with populating BCIN Matrix;
-Stamp Issued for Permit documents;
-Respond to plans examiner’s comments;
-Conduct site visits;
-Stamp Close-Out Letters if required by the AHJ.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Undergraduate Degree in Fire Safety Engineering or,
Undergraduate Degree in related Engineering discipline and Masters Degree in Fire Safety Engineering
Experience
-5–10 years of experience in building code consulting, architecture, or interior design,
primarily within Ontario; Canada-wide experience considered an asset.
-Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and applicable accessibility
legislation and standards; familiarity with other provincial codes considered an asset;
-Experience with corporate, government, institutional, residential, hospitality, seniors
living, healthcare, mixed-use and industrial projects an asset.
Credentials
Required:
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng)
Preferred:
-RHFAC Professional designation or commitment to obtaining certification;
-BCIN Certification (Small, Large and/or Complex Buildings; Complex preferred) or commitment to obtaining certification.
-Corporate and commercial project experience is preferred.

Technical Skills
The ideal candidate has a strong working knowledge and understanding of all or most of the following codes and standards:
-Ontario Building Code, Parts 3, 9 and 11 (current and legacy versions);
-National Building Code, Parts 3 and 9(current and legacy versions);
-Alberta Building Code, Parts 3 and 9 (current and legacy versions);
-Nova Scotia NBC Amendments;
-CSA B651-18 + 23 Accessible Design for the Built Environment;
-CSA B652-23 Accessible Dwellings;
-AODA IASR;
-Toronto Accessibility Design Guidelines (TADG);
-Alberta Accessibility Design Guide;
-Nova Scotia Built Environment Accessibility Standard Regulations.
-Proficiency interviewing and comprehending architectural, interior design and engineering drawings;
-Understanding of fire protection principles and life safety systems;
-Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite;
-Understanding of CMHC processes and accessibility requirements related to funding programs.
